Holiday Travel Tips and Tricks from CRW

Nov 17, 2025

The holiday season is one of the busiest times to travel, but with a little preparation you can enjoy a smooth and stress-free journey through West Virginia International Yeager Airport. Here are a few simple tips to help you make the most of your holiday travel.

1. Arrive Early

Plan to arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes before your flight. Holiday crowds, checked baggage, and longer-than-usual lines can add extra time to your routine.

2. Know the TSA Rules Before You Pack

TSA has helpful tools for travelers. Before packing:

  • Review the TSA Travel Checklist

  • Check the “What Can I Bring?” page for liquids, gifts, and carry-on restrictions

  • Consider enrolling in TSA PreCheck if you want to speed up screening

Visit TSA.gov for the latest travel guidance.

3. Pack Smart for the Holidays

If you are bringing gifts, do not wrap them before arriving. TSA may need to inspect them during screening. Gift bags or unwrapped items are recommended.

4. Check Your Airline’s Travel Alerts

Weather and holiday demand can affect flight schedules. Visit your airline’s website or app for the most up-to-date information:

5. Keep Identification Handy

Have your ID or mobile driver’s license ready when you reach the security checkpoint. West Virginia’s Mobile ID Program allows travelers to add their state-issued ID to their phone wallet for added convenience. Learn more!

6. Check Your Bags for Holiday Items

Common holiday items that travelers forget about:

  • Snow globes larger than 3.4 ounces must go in checked bags

  • Wrapped bottles of wine or cider should be checked

  • Food is allowed, but liquids, spreads, and sauces must follow the 3-1-1 rule

Use TSA’s “What Can I Bring?” tool for specific items.

7. Give Yourself the Gift of Extra Time

Traffic, weather, and full flights can slow down your travel day. A little extra time takes the stress out of your journey and helps you enjoy a more relaxed airport experience.

8. Enjoy the Holiday Spirit at CRW

CRW will be decorated for the season, and our teams and volunteer ambassadors will be ready to help however they can. If you need assistance, simply ask. As you travel, take a moment to thank an airline or airport employee. And thank you for choosing to start your journey at CRW.
